Bern prepares for unmanned vehicles

The Federal Office for Roads (ASTRA) has established a working group of eight people. Should be prepared for legislative adjustments to driverless cars, Tages.Anzeiger spokesman confirmed.

"A revision of the Law on Road Traffic should begin later this year. And time is short, the technological development is not expected," said Michael Müller.

Bern could be based on the work in Germany, which provides for a trial period. Michael Müller believes that, in this case, international standards must be harmonized, as envisaged by the Convention on Road Traffic of Vienna.

everyone applauds

Advances in ASTRA are received by all political parties in Switzerland. "Autonomous vehicles will be, without a doubt. So, we must begin to adapt the legal framework," said Congressman Walter Wobmann (SO / UDC). His colleague Jürg Grossen (BE / Vert'Lib) agrees, adding that you can "learn from what is happening in Germany."

Auto Suisse, the umbrella federation of the car importers, even applauded. "We will have in Switzerland the same vehicles in Germany," says its director Andreas Burgener, which advises the German-speaking Switzerland to take the train.

And in the case of an accident?

Lawmakers must answer a fundamental question: Who is responsible in case of accident? According to Germany, the responsibility should rest with the manufacturer if you normally use the vehicle. A data recording system (black box) on each vehicle must try.

But in reality, it will take decades before you see the streets, and a fully automated traffic. Over the next 20 or 30 years, which will be based on a combination of classical and autonomous vehicles, provides Andreas Burgener.

This problem does not scare the world of insurance. "We will witness a contest that can provide the most valuable products," predicts product manager Sascha Turck Zurich in Switzerland. But to achieve this, the sector "needs clear and simple rules quickly." The German experience is also closely monitored.

In 5 to 10 years at most

Other problems to be solved is that of data protection, which will be in the black box. "The recording, saving and, in particular, the use of this data should have a legal response," said Daniel Graf of the Swiss Touring Club.

The ability to create in the future an additional lane for these autonomous vehicles on the main roads of Switzerland should be considered in advance of Switzerland Andreas Burgener guide.

All these questions need quick answers, we have agreed unanimously. "The technology of these vehicles is growing faster than we think. These cars will be on our roads by 2030, rather than in five or ten years at the most," says Sascha Turck in Zurich in Switzerland.
